Planed thermowood boards – thermally modified pine

Our planed thermowood boards are made from Scandinavian pine in quality AB, with square edges. The timber is heated to 180–220 °C in steam without oxygen and without any chemicals. The whole cross-section is modified, moisture drops to 4–6 % and the resin is removed. The result is a dimensionally stable, decay-resistant board with a warm brown colour.

Which size for which use?

  • 20 mm – open rain-screen facade cladding with gaps, fences, sauna and terrace walls, ceilings, slats and planters.
  • 20×40 and 20×68 – laths, slatted walls, battens and trims.
  • 26 mm – terrace decking, docks, sauna benches and garden furniture.

Coverage: 26×117 needs about 8.1 running metres per m², so decking costs roughly €30/m² incl. VAT (material only). 1000 lin. m of 26×117 covers about 123 m² of decking; 1000 lin. m of 20×92 covers about 92 m² of cladding.

Durability and care

Thermo pine reaches durability class 1–2 under EN 350 (15–25+ years outdoors), compared with class 3–4 for untreated pine, so it can be used outside without chemical impregnation. Left untreated it weathers to silver-grey; a pigmented oil keeps the brown tone. Thermowood is slightly more brittle than ordinary timber, so pre-drill near the ends and use stainless A2/A4 screws.

Questions & answers

How much does thermowood cost per running metre?
Prices start at €1.57/lin. m incl. VAT for 20×40 mm. The popular 26×117 mm decking board costs €3.66/lin. m, which works out at about €30/m² incl. VAT for the material.
Why is there a minimum order of 1000 running metres?
The boards are produced to order, so the minimum is 1000 lin. m per order. That equals roughly 123 m² of 26×117 decking or 92 m² of 20×92 cladding.
Where are the boards collected, and what is the export price?
Delivery terms are EXW Järvamaa, Estonia; collect yourself or we quote transport to Estonia, Finland, Latvia or elsewhere in the EU. The export price without VAT (e.g. €2.95/lin. m for 26×117) applies outside the EU and to EU businesses with a valid VAT number.
How long does thermowood last outdoors without treatment?
Thermo pine is durability class 1–2 under EN 350, typically 15–25+ years outdoors without chemical impregnation. Untreated, it turns silver-grey; oil it with a pigmented oil to keep the brown colour.
Which size should I choose for decking or cladding, and how many metres per m²?
Use 26 mm boards for decking (26×117 ≈ 8.1 lin. m/m², 26×140 ≈ 6.9) and 20 mm boards for cladding (20×92 ≈ 10.9, 20×117 ≈ 8.6, 20×140 ≈ 7.1 lin. m/m²). Add a little extra for cutting waste.
