Thermowood cladding for facades, saunas and interiors
Thermoarena thermowood cladding is made from thermally modified pine and ayous. Heat treatment at 180–220 °C without chemicals gives the boards excellent dimensional stability, low water absorption and resistance to decay – thermo pine and thermo ayous both reach EN 350 durability class 1–2. That makes them ideal for facades, terrace and sauna walls, ceilings and interiors.
Profiles
- UTS and UTV – 20 mm tongue-and-groove cladding; UTV has a V-groove.
- UYS and UYV – 20 mm tongue-and-groove cladding; UYV has a V-edge.
- VCLIP – clip cladding fixed with plastic clips to special rails; horizontal, vertical, diagonal or even on ceilings, with no visible screws.
- HSS 42×28 and 42×42 – slanted lath for open slatted facades.
Species and sizes
Thermo pine is live-knotty Scandinavian pine in 20×92, 20×117 and 20×140 mm, lengths 1.8–5.1 m. Thermo ayous is a light African hardwood, knot-free on 3–4 sides and a good alternative to Western Red Cedar; it comes in 20×92 and 20×140 mm (VCLIP also 20×190 mm), lengths 2.1–4.5 m. Coverage for UTV: 20×92 ≈ 12.2 running metres per m², 20×117 ≈ 9.35 and 20×140 ≈ 7.69.
Finishes and installation
Boards are available untreated, pre-oiled with UV protection, painted in colours, fire-retardant impregnated or brushed. Untreated thermowood turns silver-grey outdoors; a pigmented oil or factory finish keeps the colour longer. Install vertically or horizontally over a ventilated cavity using stainless screws or nails, and pre-drill near board ends, as thermowood is slightly more brittle than ordinary timber.
